Meat for "grumble, grumble", note for the old lady, the raft, are just keys essentially, but the first Zelda was really smart about it, too. I would even say that Metroid is slightly distinguished from Zelda in that the upgrades are never just to be a "key" but have other continual usually combat uses. Samus has most of her kit at this point, including the Speedbooster, and can solve a few puzzles on the way to Catartsis. Despite having already tread the terrain, this doesn't feel boring because there is so much more to do now. After defeating a Chozo Solider in Artaria, though, Samus then gets to go through the opening terrain again on her way to Catarsis. Thankfully, there is a warp in Burenia that will take Samus right to this area later on. Samus can't get in there unless she has the Speedbooster and the Gravity Suit.
